Warm Orange Kentucky Earth

Breathing the warm, orange, Kentucky earth
in through my feet, I can remember everything.
Eat nothing but carrots for a month and you'll
look like you come from Kentucky, too.
Walking now, over the warm, orange, Kentucky
earth, I can remember everything, I can
feel the fossils under my feet and the ghosts
of volcanoes that only took place in other
dimensions. The men who got rich and died,
and the golden blood of wars. The sun
hangs low and ruddy in the sky and cardinals hop from tree to tree beside me. I can remember everything. I can walk to the
east, to the north, to the south, to the
west and unlock, with the tiniest twist of
my heel, worlds that have only been dreamed of.
