America |
|
I can feel your hands reach into me.
The breathe & scent of your queer geography
The wild tribes who are guarding your door
The secret sands that have slept on the floor of your sea.
You - would you ever think of me?
Think of me & the shape of my body
the stone walls that i kicked down to be with you
the wild mountain for which i was named.
Your poison i drink like a tonic it strengthens
me
The strange fire of your breath on my body
America would you please consider me?
And the southern birds will sing again with
me
And the blood that fell will rise again in me
And if i have comrades at all we will meet on the shore
Of the cities & towns that have faln to the floor of the sea
And the ancient hands with fall again on to me.
Year by year on his way to the Southern Sea
Through the river’s bend & the curl of the willow tree
The village the children the dogs even stare at him
Their eyes are like thorns how they rip & tear into him
His blood spills like a pearl & like a seed
Oh- Fisherman! you can lay your hands on me.
Call to me & the shape of my body
The stone walls that i kicked down to be with you
the wild mountains for which I was named.
Your poison I drink- like a tonic it strengthens
me.
The strange fire of your breath on my body
Oh, fisherman would you please consider me?
And America will fall like a man onto me
And America will fall like a man onto me

Made
Love to my Father |
|
bandage on my eye
sun shines on the barrell of my gun
& the blood on my hands is dry
today i turn thirteen
i’m pretty strong but i ain’t that old
& they call me brave cause the truth be told
the very youngest in the calvary...
hey hey little boy blue
get over here we got something for you
the shiniest gun that you’ve ever seen
all the men are squinting in the sun
& they’re knocking the flies away
they treat me kind & they pat me on the head
& i think i’m gonna die today...
i made love to my father & now I must pay...
My horse i named him Queen
he does whatever i tell him to
tho he’s four times bigger than me
sun shines on grass of green
i watch the sun rise up in the sky
and the time slip away from me
hey hey little blue boy
i’m gonna show you something today
bite down on your finger son cause you’re gonna be a man today
childhood skips after the sun
thru the checkerboard of the sky
blue tears welling up in my eyes
& i think i’m getting ready to die...
i made love to my father & now i must pay...
a rabbit sits on my shoulder
& he sometimes talks to me
i do whatever he tells me to
tho he’s four times smaller than me
bugle splits the sky
drum beat pounds up thru the earth &
the men get ready to die
canon splits the sky
sun leaps up over my head
& it pours in through my eye
hey hey little boy blue
you've got a daddy up in the sky
he’s up there waiting for you
with his hand stretched down from the sky
guns unzip the gates of hell
but it seems much different to me
blood shines & peals like a bell
that’s how it seems to me
three clouds drift like kings
thru the checkerboard of the sky
they look so soft to me
that my heart begins to cry
i made love to my father & now i must pay…

Feather Man |
|
We were sitting together on the front porch
swing
You started talking about everything
Like how the white man stole your land away
And I felt in my heart like I was to blame
Like it was my fault, and I felt this shame
And then I felt your feathers tickle me ee me ee
We were sitting on the porch drinking lemonade
Both wearing sneakers that were Nike made
When I first felt your feathers tickle me ee me ee
Well I thought it must have been the wind
on my shoe
Till I first caught sight of your big canoe
Moving slowly through those waters towards me ee me ee
And though I aint been good, I could start
tomorrow
Wont cause nobody no more sorrow
Just please sir take your feathers off of me ee me ee
Just take that green feather off my thigh
That red feather off my eye
Just pull your yellow feather out of me ee ee
It felt like running through the woods at
night
I could feel your breath but their was nothing in sight
I could feel my soul just running away to die
Your skin was sticky but it wasnt red
Your three feathers lined up straight in my head.
As three feather man came slowly over me ee me ee
Like curdled milk in a broken vase
A dead white man without a face
I could see that crooked finger point to me
Put that green feather on my thigh
That red feather on my eye
Put that yellow feather into me ee ee
It dont mean nothing that you spared my life
When it aint worth nothing now since that night
Cause Jesus saw your feathers touching me ee me ee
Yeah God was watching from his star-lit sky
Staring me down with that humongous eye
And I know God wont be forgivin me ee me ee
And I know I' m deserving of all this and
more
Dirtier than dirt more down than a floor
But Three Feather Man I'm begging you for mercy mercy
Just take your green feather off my thigh
That red feather off my eye
Just pull that yellow feather out of me ee ee

Mikael |
|
Mikael, Mikael, be by my side
to grip my arm when i would hide
to lick my tongue to lay the blame
to take my hand to pull its frightened flesh into the flame
Where are we from why are we hear?
What could we lose? What could we fear?
What can we take? What can we win?
What stays behind, what makes us want to walk this road again?
**
Ribbon ribbon your job is this
to tell the world that i exist
to tell the world that i am here
the one they love
the one they will soon learn to never fear
**
You slide your hands between my thighs
you spread my legs you watch my eyes
you place your tongue inside; i let you in
you leave my house & still i know that you'll be back again
Father Father your lonely child
so touched by other worlds so cold & wild
your flame your flame i took it in
i spoke my name & now the whole world knows where i begin
~

Crystalline
Flame |
|
You were a frog in a bucket of fish.
You were a dog with your head in a dish full of worms-
every single one full of germs.
You owned a small house and a piece of the
press.
You tried to keep yourself tidy and dressed like the teens
you'd read about in men's magazines.
Drumming on your fingers as you stare in
my eyes
Sending out vibrations with the gigantic size of your ass
Sitting on a chair made of glass. No! If you wanted to come you
gotta call!
If you wanted to die you gotta fall from somewhere high,
not just lay down and cry!
Go! To where the other people look like you!
Or if Earth is the place where they do, I took a wrong turn
somewhere, cause I'd never want to make love to You.
You're just a meat eating rhino I guess.
You don't gotta worry if you make a small mess on your chin.
Cause no one's gonna ask where you been.
You know you live in a land with no flame.
You can take the bait and just lay all the blame on your friends.
Or blame it on the tiger within.
Lining up the ladies like pink bowling pins
Knocking down their bodies with two balls made of skin
But what for? Just to hang a piece of lace on your door?
No! If you wanted to come you gotta call!
If you wanted to die you gotta fall from somewhere high
not just lay down and cry!
Go! To where the other people look like you!
Or if Earth is the place where they do, I took a wrong turn
somewhere, cause I'd never want to make love to you.
You touched the very farthest edge of my
shirt.
You spent a lifetime learning how to hurt deep inside
So a lady's gotta chase you to retrieve her pride.
But I can take a nick and a few little cuts.
It aint' gonna turn me to a desperate mutt, cause I heal!
I gotta crystalline flame and it's real!
So press onto my body with your sensual weight
Search me with your hands to find the sensual gate of my heart
Shining with the pink light of art!
No! If you wanted to come you gotta call!
If you wanted to die you gotta fall from somewhere high
not just lay down and cry!
Go! To where the other people look like you!
Or if Earth is the place where they do, I took a wrong turn
somewhere, cause I'd never want to make love to you.

The
Old World |
|
Well i’m walking this road with mud on my
shoes
& the coats of the men are clean
& their pockets are filled with pennies
& their ladies laugh at me
& i’m cheered by the way the birds show off
& the flags that blow against the wind
but every time i cross a man
i start shaking in my boots again.
good lord! good lord!
i want someone to kiss me, take off my clothes
make love to me, i don’t know
good lord! good lord!
well this place aint much like the old world
it don't seem much like the old world
three big men, they corner me:
we got a bone to pick with you
your numbers they just don’t add up
& your wings is stained with glue
& the good guys don’t wear no funny clothes
& the honest guys don’t rhyme
& the pure of heart they hide their light
& the innocent don’t shine
& the truth it looks a bit like us
& common sense is where we stand
& the farthest point our eyes can see
is the farthest point of this land
good lord! good lord!
i want someone to kiss me, take off my clothes
make love to me, i don't know
good lord! good lord!
well this place aint much like the old world
it don't seem much like the old world
my tongue is tired & defeated
it don’t wanna speak no more
i just wanna bury my head in my hands
& slouch way down on the floor
but then i think of that long lost day
when I sat in a field with you
you said, beautiful day, beautiful child
i wanna give my life to you
so you slit your wrists & the blood poured
out
& we watched a thousand roses bloom
then i kissed you till the flesh turned back
like a baby soft & new
good lord! sweet lord!
well this place aint much like the old world
it don't look much like the old world

Fancy
& Soldier |
|
Silver haired soldier, your age and your
beauty
your grey uniform speaks to me.
Skipping behind you, I'm leaping to find you
and every step you take demands of me three.
The sky is so pretty, as big as a bluebird,
whose wings have uncurled to uncover three clouds.
But your eyes see nothing, they're sleeping like babies
nestled like birds in the fur of your brows.
Oh soldier, oh soldier, oh Please Let Me
Tie
a pretty pink bow on your beard or your thigh!
My lucky pink ribbon, your age and your beauty,
the shadows of gun fire and fear...
May I call you fancy fancy fancy my dear?
My very presence refreshes!
The touch of my hand gets you high!
Someday my sweet little fancy, I'll teach you to fly.
Sitting on tree stumps now, sifting through
gruel
with the long silver arm of a spoon.
Twisting your neck arouned, raising your chin
cause you wanna keep track of the moon.
Write a letter now, Write One To Me
Let our fingers entwine, let me sit on your knee!
Let my words dance for you, let them enchant
you
away from this world where you die!
Let me sleep by your side.
My very presence refreshes!
The touch of my hand gets you high!
Someday my sweet little fancy, I'll teach you to fly.
The curtain is drawn and your time passes
by.
I sit on the other side watching the sky...
Leaping on stones with your gun at your side
till you fall from the weight of a wound.
Hooking the sky with your one working eye
as you try to hang on for the moon.
First you see nothing and then you see me!
Your sweet baby blue with his head on your knee.
You scoop me up sweetly, a man & his baby;
I finger the bow in your beard.
We're in love now, fancy, fancy, fancy, my dear.
My very presence refreshes!
The touch of my hand gets you high!
Someday my sweet little fancy I'll teach you to fly.

Father
I'm Cold |
|
All alone with no pocketbook waiting for
you.
Press my head on the the looking glass waiting for you.
And my pockets are big but my fingers are small
And I cry like a butterfly smashed on the wall as I stand
Pressed on the looking glass dreaming of you.
We met in the army when I was sixteen.
I was a typist, you were a marine.
Your rank it grew like a snowball each day;
I got the boot cause they thought i was gay-
but I was straight as an arrow for you.
I used to dream of us making sweet love
Till my body would start to explode.
Oh Father! Father Father Father, I'm cold.
The sky is stretched out like a sheet in
the sky.
Far below on the earth a king scuffles by.
And he’s dressed up in rags like a woman today;
He hops through the woods like a bearcub at play,
When who should he meet in the forest but you,
He meets you.
"Take off your clothes, please." you say
with your gun.
Off comes his clothes & he stands in the sun.
Blood fills your face & it twitches your hands
When you find that your woman is really a man.
You say, "Why, why did you lie, Mr. Leopold?"
He said,"Look at your hands, please,
They’re shaking like pansies; your heart
Can’t do anything bold."
Oh Father! Father Father Father, I'm cold.
Should I go back to the army again?
This time as a soldier, this time as a man?
Cause the sky is so big and my life is so small
Like a dumb stupid photograph glued to the wall-
And I’d cross both my eyes & I’d wiggle my toes
And I’d bleed thru the heart & I’d pay through the nose.
Oh please call me back to the battle of life
And I promise to do as I'm told!
Oh Father! Father Father Father, I'm cold.

Fade
Away |
|
Just when I thought I'd seen everything
A dragon swirled out of the sky.
His tail trailed behind him like ink
Spelling 'dragon' across the sky.
I touched a scale- it was shiny & soft,
So I touched him again & again.
He breathed fire so deep into me
Smoke was pouring from my skin.
I would have mounted on his back,
But he was delicate & high.
I just stood there, six feet tall,
Gazing in his western eye.
Ain't nothing here I want to fade away,
Nothing here I want to rise above--
You & Me could be like soldiers MAKING LOVE.
My mind's eye can still recall
The ivy that grew by your door.
I don't forget the day it curled
To grow back into the earth.
Burrowing down through the soft earth.
Like snake sliding down through a hole.
In the darkness I could feel the ivy
Sliding down like a snake through a hole.
Drawn to the earth's red belly like
A hawk screaming down from the sky.
In my dreams that vine & I
Would crisscross in Shanghai.
Ain't nothing here I want to fade away,
Nothing here I want to rise above--
You & Me could be like soldiers MAKING LOVE.
I can't see no one in this room
But the clear brown eyes of you.
The fire escape creeps out the window,
The sky hides behind a crescent moon.
My jacket is hung on the doorknob,
So there's nothing to touch here but you.
Your car keys are lying behind me on the floor,
So there's no way out but to just push through.
When teacher taught us bout dust to dust
And how nothing continues on.
I remember her shining like the sun
Shining on & on & on & on & on.
Ain't nothing here I want to fade away,
Nothing here I want to rise above--
You & Me could be like soldiers MAKING LOVE.

Methodius'
Stand |
|
The bells are a ringin
i know what they mean
beaten the yankees in battle again
murdered our foes; squashed them like grapes
crushed down their bones; trampled their capes
Boys'll be marchin on back to this town
two by two marchin on, lonely & proud.
dreaming of the women they'll have
thinking they've earned us & maybe they have…
Does anyone know what a lady is here in this
town?
My name is Methodius Paygate, my friends
the lovliest loneliest woman in town
boys have been fighting since I was eighteen
no one has yet laid Methodius down.
Guess it's somethin' like custard's last
stand
surrounded by blood-hungry men
got no weapons to keep them away
just lock my knees tightly together & pray…
Does anyone know what a lady is here in this
town?
The women & girls well they make fun of me
calling me high on my horse
the men & the boys they grow angry with me
calling me icy & many things worse
But i think that they misunderstand
i don't wanna be no virgin queen.
its this tiny voice buried in me
it ain't something that i understand
Does anyone know what a lady is here in this
town?
Confederates stand for many things
such as beautiful flowers and lace
i gaze at my self in the mirror and watch
as the blood rushes up to my face
Bells dance in through the window.
clouds drift up from the south
boys will arrive here by evening
taste of my blood grows strong in my mouth...
Does anyone know what a lady is here in this
town?

Pink
Star of the Beautiful Ohio |
| |
Pinkstar of the beautiful Ohio
crashing down in flames to
extinguish in the river, smoldering, smoldering
with black and gray smoke, thicker than mud, thicker
than fossils, this river is on fire,
it is red hot at the bottom, it burns
the curious finger, it shines gold
beneath the moon.
Pink star of the Ohio, sweltering,
sweating at the center of the earth,
locked up in chains, panting
and shaking, he glows with fury
making the earth blush and moisten.
Chains melting from his cherry
blood, glaring holes into the earth’s
thick crust, he is ready to go home.
So it won’t be long now, people of Kentucky,
till he’ll rise from the body of the Ohio,
like a whale on fire, rising up to the sky
where he’ll shine on Kentucky
and we’ll glow like an ember.

Lucky
One |
|
Mama do you think that maybe I could be the
Lucky One today? Cause the men who used to laugh at me And dance
around my table Are all lined up in the yard today. And the wind
doesn't blow them away. The rain doesn't change The words that they
say. Oh Mama do you think that maybe I could be the Lucky One today?
Oh Mama do you think that maybe I could be the Lucky One for real?
Cause the feelings of emotion that I'm feeling In my body are the
feelings that the Lucky Ones feel. The Orange of Victory. The Yellow
Sun rising up in me. And cool Blue Sword of my sexuality. Oh Mama
do you think that your Lucky One is ready To go lead the lives that
Lucky Ones lead? When the men are in the desert When they're burning
with their wishes Do you think that they will bring them to me?
When they're down in the deep blue sea. With their cheeks puffed
out With the bubbles they breathe, Oh Mama do you think that they
will swim up through the waters to me? Oh Mama do you think that
they will swim up through the ocean To explore the way that a Lucky
One lives? When I've fed them from my faucet When I've given them
my clothing Do you think that they'll be ready to give? Can I pour
like an open spout, Can I pour and pour, Can I never run out? Oh
Mama isn't that what being one of the Lucky Ones is about? I'm sitting
in my bedroom And I'm fingering a matchstick And I'm watching how
it burns and it shines. Shining on the glitter and the silver That
surrounds me like a torch in an emerald mine. Like a torch in a
crystal cave Like a sword that cuts through the din and the gray.
Oh Mama do you think that maybe I could be the Lucky One today?

Countrified |
|
Unlock your broken door for me. Lead me to
table for a broken cup of tea. You've still got on your hunting
shoes & the melancholy aura of the Indiana dew You say you buried
her last night. Your bassett hound, Elizabeth, while the moon was
slim & white Point through the window to her stone Point past the
cupboard where one button sits alone. I try to take it all in stride.
Cause you are countrified. I'm walking back towards my room Faces
in the tree bark are now shifting into you. The way you met me at
your door. The chair I sat in where nobody sat before. Unlock the
door into my room Lay me in my lonely chair & turn my mind to you.
You've never seen my room before. It's bright pink walls would frighten
you There'd be too many shoes for you stuffed unicorns, & lipstick
too & feathers on the floor. I learn to take it all in stride. Cause
you are countrified. Walking the long grey road that leads To the
grocery store the mailbox and a pond of scummy green. Walk to the
store but now they're closed Walk to the scummy pond and toss a
little stone. Old man walks by me in his coat. His scuffy shoes
they call to me

Live
in this World |
|
Captain of your big ship with three fingers
in the sea & you leave your ship to go fishing on a smaller boat
with me. And you criticize my pony-tail from beneath your feathered
hat As we slink along the side-streams in our search for trout &
bass. But you live in this world, live in this world. So What? I’m
not of this world. Captain of the high-seas with three feathers
in your hat Drawing up a pale green flag along a wooden mast And
you greet with me with a handshake and you greet me with a pearl
And you tell me bout your time last night down underdeck with a
girl. But you live in this world, live in this world. So What I’m
not of this world! Take it now or leave it cause my ship is moving
on Cause the muscled men are ready & the land-walkers are all gone.
And the stars are most auspicious & the pale green flag is hung
& you send a boy to tell me that I really don’t turn you on. Did
I say or did I not say that I am a man & that you & I have been
brothers since the clutch of time began? & that you & I have been
captains & our ships have crossed before but all the stars have
crossed & you don’t recognize me no more?

Knocking
on Heaven's Door (You Got to Pay) |
|
I know how to dance man, you step left &
then step right I know how to make love, you just lay down in the
night. Daddy has a magic lamp I rub it when I please And you gotto
pay man if you want to sleep with me. C G em C// D em em C/ C G
G C When I was a baby I was sullen big & fat. I got yellow fever
then I grew all thin & flat. With each bony finger I could feel
the breath of destiny. Yeah you got to pay man if you wanna sleep
with me. CHORUS: Could that be the hand of heaven knocking on my
door? Could that be my daddys body lying on my floor? When the stars
have fallen down to blue-eyed judgment day If were full of seed
& money what will Jesus say? dm em dm g// em c dm g/ g dm em c Heaven
s falling on us like a planet heavy shroud. Aint no place on earth
where you can lay your money now. Need to find a lady man to guard
your golden seed. But you got to pay man if you want to sleep with
me. CHORUS The time that we have left here you could measure with
your hands. If you cupped them sweetly down beneath the fallen sands.
Anything your eyes can see ain t nothing that you need. So you gotto
pay if you wanna sleep with me. CHORUS Dont be scared my daddy will
be watching from the sky. He won t forget to shine on you when you
say goodbye. He wont forget to wink at you when you take your leave.
Just don t forget to pay man if you want to sleep with me. Just
dont forget to pay man if you want to sleep with me.

Life
Everlasting |
|
Let's go to the jungle pick the fruit from
off the trees Let's give all our notebooks & our boots to charity
I'll let out a yelp so loud the animals will circle round But first
let's have us one more drink to the here & now. Cause time flies
out the window & it leaves behind a string. That string is gonna
guide us baby to eternity. Babe won't you untie me & make love to
me with passion. But first let's drink a toast to a new life, life
everlasting. Now I'm looking in your eyes & maybe you can see the
future is disintegrating here inside of me Soon babe I won't be
no woman you won't be no man We should rectify this situation while
we can We's gonna be like angels, won't know death & won't know
birth. We's gonna peer beneath the tender nightgown of the earth.
I need you to undress me & make love to me with passion. But first
let's drink a toast to a new life, life everlasting. Let's get in
your car my friend & let's just hit the road. I can't stay here
no more it don't matter where we go. The cool blue sword of heaven
is descending to my hands. I'm slicing off my parents & I'm slicing
off my friends. I'm slashing through my hopes & I'm just dashing
through my fears. When the future hits you gotta be as light as
air. Babe slide out that condom & make love to me with passion.
But first lets drink a toast to a new life, life everlasting

Fuck
Me All Night Long |
|
Are your stripes the shadows of bars? Or
the hint of things unseen? I move in for a closer look but I’m put
off by your scream. I got a gun & a knife. I’m sitting up high in
a tree. The moon’s out & it my time of night. I’m waiting for you
to come to me. Are you a lost cause? Do you want to “fuck me all
night long?” I’m a soldier for the american dream. I need a man
to tie my ribbons on. Rasputin he’s a handsome man & his eyes are
black as beads His legs are long like noodles but he ain’t got what
i need because the dawn will soon be breaking The nite is starting
to pulse & creak soon i’ll have to testify i need someone to take
care of me are you a lost cause? do you want to fuck me all night
long I’m a soldier for the american dream i need a man to tie my
ribbons on right now i don’t love no one my mouth is bigger than
my hearrt I’m encrusted & insensitive i wear a button on my heart
but what if you kissed me every night ironed my ribbons & made me
tea brushed my hair for a hundred years it might start getting thru
to me

Ring
of Fire |
|
I was riding on my horse one cold & snowy
night. The air was tinged with whiteness & the road was gone from
sight. I pulled in on the rains to take deep breath of the night.
My vision looped the planet in a perfect circle quite. God gave
birth to man & then man gave birth to desire. Come on man & plunge
your torch into my ring of fire What s behind the curtain when the
final act has closed. What do I keep hidden underneath my sunday
clothes. Well babe I know the rules and I know im bound to lose
cause i ain t gonna give my love to just one man My eyes are so
wide open that my hands cant even feel I m bareback on my horse
& yet my bodys draped in steel My eyes are so wide open that I can
t say whats for real. The world is draped in men & yet my hearts
afraid to feel God gave birth to man & then man gave birth to desire.
Come on man & plunge your torch into my ring of fire. What s behind
the curtain when the final act has closed. What do I keep hidden
underneath my sunday clothes. Well babe I know the rules and I know
I m bound to lose cause i refuse to give my love to just one man.
When the snow is melted down Ill ride into the town. I ll polish
up my boots & then Ill have a look around. My horse is called imagination
& he s restless in his hoofs. My sword is called the truth & man
its pining bad for you. God gave birth to man & then man gave birth
to desire. Come on man & plunge your torch into my ring of fire.
Whats behind the curtain when the final act has closed. What do
I keep hidden underneath my sunday clothes. Well babe I know the
rule and I know I m bound to lose Cause I refuse to give my love
to just one man. Em D D Em D C C Em G D C D Em C C Em

man could ever play Dont know how it started it s just always been
that way. I guess some days a man just needs a game that he can
win. And when hes feeling cheap & cocky thats when I walk in. Yeah
he sees me walking like a warden of the state. C Em Dm G Google-eyed
& knock-kneed & tumbled down by fate. You can tell me anything &
I ll believe its true. But if you ain t mine please get on back
to the one who sent you. Yeah if you aint mine please get on back
to the one who sent you. You think I m alright with my fiddles &
my fans. But you dont see the tears I cry- they re bigger that a
hand. Big enough to douse the fire that once consumed the earth
Crashing down like meteors towards the broken earth. Filling up
my bedroom like a water hole in the sand. Splashing round my ankles
& washing the dirt from my hands. Some times I let my eyes just
rest in this pool & think of you. Oh if you aint mine please get
back on to the one who sent you. If you ain t mine please get back
on to the one who sent you.

Indian
Friend |
|
High on a mountain, with a helmut of cloud
Pushed a baby blue flag into the snow on the ground Saw something
move way back down on the ground. Knew it was you & it turned me
around. I was running but my legs were all ice. Rolling down the
mountain like a runaway dice. Down to the valley where the world
was still green. And the wind & the ice were still aclinging to
me. But I knew it was you, and I knew it was spring. I knew these
lines would never criss-cross again. I knew these lines could never
hold in the wind. And I had to tell my Indian friend goodbye. You
were dwarfed by the size of your pack. It held you down like a stone
on your back. You had a pail with a heart on one side. I assumed
you had provisions inside And I had to tell my Indian friend goodbye.
You re walking west with your back to the wind. The sun is setting
like the heart of a friend. My tears are melting & theres blood
on my shin. But I had to tell my Indian Friend goodbye. Last night
I dreamed as the wind blew around. Shaking my tent like a pebble
it found. Just like a giant kicking boulders around. I was afraid
of being ripped from the ground. But I dreamed of you far below
on the ground. Walking through the valley with a whistleing sound.
Making your way into some far away town. I assumed that you had
business in town. And I had to tell my Indian friend goodbye. Running
down a mountain aint the easiest thing. When you know you have to
climb up again. When provisions are short & your ankle is sprained.
When your tears are unfrozen & they re falling like rain. But I
had to tell my indian friend good bye. Well its certainly true that
you have places to go. I noticed your lunchbox is padlocked in gold.
The gold will be sold in a far away land. You ll walk in like a
tear drop & theyll make you a man. Do you think I ll make it up
the mountain again. Do you think Ill be climbing with my back to
the wind? Will a flag be waiting like the heart of a friend? Will
the clouds fall on me like a helmet again? Will my tears freeze
& stay in one place? Will they cover up the blood on my face? Will
the blood walk away from my fingers again. After racing up to shake
your hand. You ll do well with your locket of gold. Youll buy flowers
& beer with the locket you sold. The words we exchanged will grow
dusty and old. You won t remember them until you grow old. Then
youll glance up to take a look at the sky. You ll salute to the
clouds & youll tell them goodbye. And you ll think of the time someone
told you goodbye. Rolled off a mountain like a rock from the sky.
Watched you walk with your back to the wind. The sun was setting
like the heart of a friend. My tears were melting there was blood
on my shin. But I had. to tell my Indian Friend goodbye

Cabin
Boy |
|
Skipping through a town by the Bay Where
a Captain won't stay But a day or a night. Standing 'tween the Sea
and the Sky Well a Captain can't lie And he always is right. Saw
me steppin' down from your boat With a boot in your hand You were
holding it tight. Standing 'tween the Sea and the Sky Well a Captain
can't lie And he always is right. You put me on your ship as a Cabin
Boy But I knew that it wasn't right. I remember crawling on my hands
and my knees Thowing up into the big black night. Standing on the
deck with my hands on the rail Watching boats floating out to sea.
The wood bottom gails with their triangle sails Always drifting
far away from me. And the men take turns And your heart burns. Bringing
you two rolls and some bread Where you lie in your bed With a girl
every night. Bowing down my head to descend Under deck where you
bend me over With your black might. Wearing shortened pants Like
the boys playing round with the toys On the deck every night. Spreading
out my legs to receive Every gail storm and breeze that blows over
me right. In the night. Stacking up crates on your wooden deck Beneath
the bright orange of the sun. Mopping up the deck with some foamy
froth You see a slave's work is never done. Yeah the men take turns
And your heart burns. Dreaming of the land that I'll find Of the
cities that shine And twinkle late in the night. Climbing on the
deck's icy rail Where I pray for a gale To blow over me right. Blowing
to the arms of the Sea Where my Captain but he can not follow me
quite. Freedom and release they will come From the Sea's icy tongue
flowing over me right In the Night. You took me on as a Cabin Boy
But I knew that it wasn't right. I remember crawling on my hands
and my knees Thowing up into the big black night. Standing on the
deck with my hands on the rail Watching boats floating out to sea.
The wood bottom gails with their triangle sails Always drifting
far away from me. And the men take turns And your heart burns.

I
also Wanted to Make Love |
| |
It's a brite blue day, it's a horses parade
It's the very first day of spring And the men are tip-tapping to
the steeple bells as they shine thru a golden ring. And the ladies
are swaying & they're dancing & playing with their hair so long
& gold. But every time a pony shakes his mane I get cold. You offer
up a ribbon for my hair I give you a frown & a shrug Oh what about
ME? I also, wanted to make love. A pole is painted in bright red
stripes tent in stripes of blue And the horses got pom-poms in their
tails & shiny saddles too. And every lady wears a little bouquet
that was picked by a little man. But my daisies are crushed beneath
the pony feet into the sand. I need to find me a mountain so I can
walk high above Oh what about ME? I also, wanted to make love. You
wear a great big top hat. You ride a great big horse. You got a
knack for politics & muscular discourse. You got no need for flowers.
You don't believe in prophesy. You got no use for trifles you don't
need me. So put away the bonnets & the polka-dots Put away the big
parade. All the men dressed up like fairies Cause fairies aren't
welcome here anyway. Small things, little things, odd things, pretty
things all the theatre & display Cause you don't like, don't like,
really don't like fairies anyway. You're going down to the valley
so low I'm gonna walk high above. Oh what about me? I also wanted
to make love.

Little
Russian Boy |
|
You saw my legs before you ever saw my eyes.
Dangled like a carrot from a string tied to the sky.
Landed on a stairwell in the arms of Mother
Earth.
Saw you in your rags when you were digging in the dirt.
Saw you love your mother just the way that I love you.
Wish that I could change your point of view.
Dressed yourself in brown to match the color
of the earth.
Washed your eyes with mud as tho it was your mother's skirt.
Mother Russia loves you boy but I could love you too.
Wish that I could change your point of view.
You're a little russian boy & I'm from up
above.
Lead me to the place where we make love.
You were raised in tunnels & your learned
to walk on stairs.
Leaping like a rabbit with a string tied to the air.
Well-endowed in places that your mother never knew.
Terrified in many places too.
Never seen a yellow sun or touched an eye
of blue.
Never touched a bird till it lay dead in front of you.
Mother Russia likes me but she really pines for you.
I came here to change her point of view.
You're a little russian boy & I'm from up
above.
Lead me to the place where we make love.
Stairwells cross around us-- it's wilder
than a maze.
So much brown around us, sunlight turns to haze.
Must be hidden alleys that you played in as a child.
Must be something here that's fresh & wild.
Mother mother russia would you give your
boy to me?
I don t want to eat him I just want to set him free.
He feels like an orphan boy & I'm an orphan too.
Maybe I could change his point of view.
Dancing in the stairwells till you dissapear
from me.
Leaping out of nowhere with a flower picked for me.
You're a little orphan boy but I'm an orphan too.
Maybe I could change you're point of view.
You're a little russian boy & i m from up
above.
Lead me to the place where we make love.

Blessings
from the Father |
|
i'm gonna find the better part of me
piece of sky pinned down on the branch of a tree
hey baby won't you take a walk with me
drop your books & your gun to talk with me
i know that men have died this way but i never knew why
i just heard their final words as they fell like birds from the
sky
it was high to you but it never seemed high to me
what was sky to you it was just another garden for me
and the blessings from our father flow
through the hills & down below
i know oh yes i know but still it hurts to see you go
i was building a new room for us today
lemon yellow walls and a sofa made of clay
it could hold three men & maybe four
if they'd lay their rifle bags on the floor
you could use a yellow place you could use some company
this floor won't hold you up my dear but you could feast your eyes
on me
it was a suicidal mission anyway
a thin red line & it wasn't even thin today
and the blessings from our father flow
through the hills and down below
i know oh yes i know and still it hurts to see you go
you should think of the future at least
occassionally
otherwise what do you really have in common with me
the birds that fall like paperweights at your door
are the men who sang with me on my floor
the blame will fall somewhere but it will not fall on me
i left it all behind when i left my family
left my death for a little blue piece of the sky
left you for an oppurtune chance to fly
and the blessings from our father flow
through the hills & down below
i know oh yes i know & still it hurts to see you go

Greensleeves |
|
I had to leave Mikael
I had to say goodbye
Mikael's eyes were sunlight
and he didn't even cry.
I turned my back
I walked away
from all I knew before
Left my clothes a-lying in a pink heap on the floor.
Nighttime could you spare some time for
me
I'm alone now if you care to care for me
Man came up behind me
and his beard was gray and dry
Grayness equaled only by the blueness of his eyes
Wound up my intention to flee and run away
Small white lily in his hand
It made me turn and say:
"Pardon me is that a lily that you hold?
I could use a pearl or two from one who's old."
Greensleeves, Greensleeves, how can I get
my fill?
Walk a mile in these boots boy then go in for the kill
You, showed your ball to me.
You, showed your ball your crystal ball down from the wall
step one two three step right step left for me
Now I've got a bugle and I have my own guitar
Feet extend the stetch of time
My voice spreads wide and far.
New green clothes that fit me well and better every day.
Small white hand upon my shoulder
I turned to hear her say:
"Do you think that you're an angel of the
Lord?
Do you think a child like you can know the score?"
Greensleeves, Greensleeves, how can I get
my fill?
Walk a mile in these boots boy then go in for the kill
Greensleeves, Greensleeves, how can I get my fill?
Walk a mile in these boots boy then go in for the kill
Walk a mile in these boots boy then go in for the kill.

Heart
of Gold --(Neil Young, addendum by Julien Aklei) |
|
I wanna live, I wanna give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.
It leaves impressions I never mention
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold.
I've been to Hollywood, I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold.
I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold.
I saw a soldier down in Texas
He was combing his silver beard
His beard was blowing in the by-winds
He was shining with a heart of gold.
Silver moon, forgotten soldier
Bent like a paperclip beneath the sky
Your heavy burden, I'll take it from you
You keep on searching for a heart of gold.
Some will ramble and some will crumble
Some will be as though they never were.
Me I'm walking down the by-roads
Searching lightly for a heart of gold.

I
love Baby Unicorns too |
|
Atlas my love you do me wrong to cast me
like a stone from you
When I have dreamt of you so long beside a stream named for you.
Hey Hey you'll never stay, no willow-bed could keep you.
Go! Go! You'll never know: I love baby unikorns too.
You touched my legs you kissed my thighs
you slid yourself inside of me
I watched it all through fairy eyes, the spaces where a heart should
be.
This this, the child of bliss, the green fruit rolling off the tree
Down down to the world of sound to the valley where you led me.
Lead me where you led one time & tell me
what you said before
So I can watch with human eyes & see what I was sent for.
Man man do you understand that the Emerald King is at your door.
Flee flee for he'll never see the good in what you stood for.
He comes with swords, he comes in flames,
he shines & stands to the side of me.
He'll cut your head he'll cut your thighs with his personal vision
of mercy.
Hey Hey you'll never stay, no willow bed could keep you
Go Go you'll never know I love baby unikorns.
You believe in a God & I believe in the dog
nipping at your heels.
You run like a baby to hide & I stand & wait till the sun disappears
Then Then I'll rise again while you revise your history.
Son, son the day done it's time for you to worship me.

It's
all over now Baby Blue |
|
You must leave now, take what you need, you
think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
The highway is for gamblers, better use
your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your street
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
All your seasick sailors, they are rowing
home.
Your empty-handed armies, they are going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind, there's
something that calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Shed
some Blood |
|
God rest ye Merry Gentlemen, let nothing
you dismay!
I come here bearing roses that I now must give away
Hoping one or two of you might shed some blood today-
Oh Oh! Shed some blood for me.
All my many brothers now you wear the same
disguise
Same white face of Pharisees and grey mistrusting eyes
You know the blood that never spills is blood that never rise-
Oh Oh! Shed some blood for me.
Standing in your satin pants you think that
I don't see
Name of my sweet ancestor embroidered on your knee
You! You wear a ring to torture me, it's like a globe.
Oh.
You were just a baby when I was already grown
Lying limply on the floor when I was leaving home
And now I've come from far away to stand upon my throne-
Oh Oh! Shed some blood for me.
Lying there behind me is a trunk upon a chain
Wrapped inside it tightly is a purple cloak of twain
I'd like to lay it on you now beneath your silver mane-
Oh Oh! Shed some blood for me.
Silver-haired soldier with the "V" upon your
brow
Never needed no one, got no way to feel it now
You could be a soldier anyhow- it's just a game.
Crying like a baby, it won't get you very
far
Better get down on your knees and kiss my silver star
Lying in the Earth maybe you'll find out who you are-
Oh Oh! Shed some blood for me.

You
ain't the Man |
|
You can sit at my table just one last time
until my boots will hit the road again to see what I can find.
Words they ain’t weapons words they ain’t lies
They ain’t rattle you can shake upon to shake away the time
Don’t know nothing bout women; don’t know nothing bout love
No o you ain’t the man I’ve been dreaming of ...
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming of
You can unzip my boots boy just one last
time
But when i zip them up again these boots will be all mine
You’re gonna get me talking until i start to cry
until i can’t do nothing but lay down and start to die
You don’t know nothing bout money don’t know nothing bout love
no o you aint’ the man i’ve been dreaming of
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming of
there’s children in the mountain & they’re
calling out to me
maybe if i follow them they’ll teach me how to see.
you’re gonna start me talking until the world turns blue
until it shrinks to get no bigger than the size of you
You don’t no nothing bout mountains don’t know nothing bout love
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming of
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming up.
There’s words up on the mountain top just
waiting there for me.
talking here with you it ain’t got much to offer me
Words they ain’t rattle to just shake away the time.
Words they ain’t our cattle they’re our husbands & our wives
You don’t know nothing bout children don’t know nothing bout love
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming of
no o you ain’t the man i’ve been dreaming of

You've
got a lover-- (Ricky Scaggs) |
|
The clubs are all closed and there’s no where
to go
when the sun wont show for hours
The streets have all emptied
and lovers lay sleeping and dreaming of each other.
You’ve got a lover but it’s not me.
He can’t love you like I can
There will be others yes I understand
Will they love me like you can
There’s Acres and Acres of heartbroken lovers
I know we're not the first ones
But sometimes it seems
that it’s just like a dream that you try hard to remember
You’ve got a lover but it’s not me.
He can’t love you like I can
There will be others yes I understand
Will they love me like you can
The clubs are all closing
you know I was hoping that time would hold me over
I pull up my collar walk into the night
I’ll be looking for an answer
You’ve got a lover but it’s not me.
He can’t love you like I can
There will be others yes I understand
Will they love me like you can

Never
Make Love |
|
DON'T
DO NOT REMOVE YOUR SUIT
DON'T TELL NOBODY YOUR NAME
DON'T TELL THEM WHAT YOU DO
DON'T
DO NOT SHAKE ANYONE'S HAND
KEEP ONE EYE ON YOUR BACK
& WATCH WHERE YOU STAND
YOU KNOW WE DID NOT WANT IT THIS WAY
IT AINT PRECISELY WHAT WE ARRANGED
IT'S MORE OR LESS JUST THE WAY THAT THINGS CAME
DON'T
DON'T TOUCH NO ONE HERE
& NEVER MAKE LOVE.
WAIT
DON'T YOU LEAP SO WILD
DON'T COVER YOUR MOUTH WITH YOUR HANDS
DON'T ACT LIKE A CHILD.
WAIT
WE'RE GONNA PLAY IT BY EAR.
WE'RE GONNA ECHOLATE & ESCAPE
FROM THE SMALLNESS OF HERE.
WE KNOW YOU CAME TO EARTH AS A VOLUNTEER
WE KNOW WE IMPLIED YOU WOULD LIKE IT DOWN HERE
WE DIDN'T PREPARE YOU FOR THE SHACKLES OF FEAR
DON'T
DON'T TOUCH NO ONE HERE
AND NEVER MAKE LOVE
TRY TO STAY COOL
TRY TO SIT DOWN
DON'T THINK TOO MUCH
DON'T LOOK ALL AROUND
YOUR CONCERNS HAVE BEEN SENT OUT TO CHANCELLOR BEAK
HE'LL GET BACK TO YOU EARLY NEXT WEEK
DON'T
DON'T TOUCH NO ONE HERE
AND NEVER MAKE LOVE.
YES IT IS A TECHONOCRACY
YOUR ABACUS WILL NOT KEEP SPEED.
YOUR CHAPBOOK HAS BEEN THROWN IN THE FIRE.
YOU MAY STORE YOUR HEART SAFELY IN THE ABOTWIRE.
DON'T
DON'T TOUCH NO ONE HERE
& NEVER MAKE LOVE.
CHILD
AIN'T NO CRYING ALLOWED
WIPE FROM THE TEARS FROM YOUR LONELY EYES
HIDE YOURSELF IN THE CROWD.
GIRL
YOU AIN'T NO WOMAN DOWN HERE
AND WE RECOMMEND YOU WEAR A MUSTACHE
JUST TO MAKE IT REAL CLEAR.
DON'T LET YOUR EYES MEET THE EYES OF A MAN
THERE'S TOO MANY THINGS YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND
YOU'D BE WASHED UP CRUSHED LIKE A TWIG IN THE SAND
DON'T
DON'T TOUCH NO ONE HERE
AND NEVER MAKE LOVE.
